SAMA
My name is Charles “SAMA” Owens Jr, I am 28 years old, and I am from Virginia Beach, VA. I also go by the name Jr BRNX, part of VA’s BRNX Krump Fam.
I started taking an interest in dance at the age of 5, when I first saw You Got Served and my cousin taught me how to wave.
The first two styles I learned were popping and breaking. At first it was just a hobby, but as I got older I would find myself always learning new street styles and then eventually the history.
For many years my mom would say “I don’t know where you got that rhythm from cause your pops can’t dance”, and I would just laugh. The more I danced the more it became my passion.
It wasn’t until I went to college at Norfolk State where I joined a crew called Urban Control, that I would discover my passion for performing.I originally intended to run track.
It became more than a hobby, it became my biggest passion.
The name SAMA is an acronym for Simply Admire My Art.
I chose this as my newest name because at the end of the day I am an artist and if my movement can help inspire or bring a moment of joy to others then I am satisfied. Moving to my own rhythm and I am glad to share with everyone.
